Notes from Mike Bickle;
The watchmen and the keepers of the walls speak of the leaders or spiritual authorities who guard the walls of God’s city to protect His people. They strike and wound her. They wound her because she had a genuine relationship with them before they rejected and persecuted her. A stranger can publish accusation against you, but only a friend can wound you. Being wounded in the house of friends is part of God’s pattern that even Jesus endured (Ps. 55:12-21).
The leaders taking away her veil speaks of removing her spiritual covering therefore, her place of function in the body (1 Cor 11:10).
Does she seek God primarily for her comfort or will she obey God for His sake? The Lord longs for a people who will obey Him regardless of what is happening in their lives. This is the primary issue in being Jesus’ inheritance. He wants a Bride equally yoked in love.
The Bride's 7 crisis in the Song include: the crisis of sin (1:5-6); the crisis of fear (2:8-9); the crisis of Divine discipline (3:1); the crisis of total obedience (4:6,16); the crisis of Divine withdrawing (5:6); the crisis of rejection in the church (5:7); and the crisis of persecution and division (6:13).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Bride is lovesick for her Beloved and therefore she chooses to go hard core in radical obedience after God. She knows that she is in desperate need of Him and He is all that she wants. Only He can satisfy the longing of her heart. She is steadfast, no one can keep her from this journey. She is confident in His love for her and she is secure. She wants to do anything or go everywhere in order to find her Beloved.
She gets mistreated by the watchmen, the ones (family, friends, church, people around her...) who should protect her, but they don't. GOD ALLOWS THIS TO HAPPEN. They wound and struck her, they see her going after God, they see a radical change in her walk with God, in how she views and lives life. But the watchmen don't understand this, they (might) live a spiritual dull life which is filled with religion instead of a relationship with God. Because the watchmen don't understand her this frustrates them and makes them angry. They realise their (spiritual) lack, and this makes them jealous at the Bride. The watchmen have a spiritual dull heart and this causes them to see with their natural eyes. It causes them to react in their flesh towards the Bride. Their hearts are not fully alive in God and thus they don't understand the spiritual process of the Bride.
The Bride and the watchmen, both live their life's in a different way, one walks in the spirit, the other in the flesh. This causes confusion from the watchmen towards the Bride and it can confusion the Bride if she is not steadfast in God and His word.
It is not that the watchmen don't love you, they just have no clue how to deal with you. You freak them out. The way you are living your life is a threat to them. This can result in the dreams they have been giving up on, all the sudden starts stirring up again. There is something rising up in their inner being. You are filled with life and God and this stirs things up. God brings forth life.
The watchmen are scared of their reputation. They have put their identity in their ministry instead of God. Because the Bride wants walk out the calling that God gave her, the watchmen fear you that you surpass them or take away their ministry/ identity. In order to protect themselves, they take away your veil, or at least try to. They don't realise what they are doing and think they are being led by the Spirit in doing this. Not that anything can stop what God is doing in you....but... They are not confident in God but trust in their own strength, that's why they try to control people and circumstances.
RESPONSE OF THE BRIDE
The Bride can have different responses towards the watchmen. First; point the finger at yourself, look at your own heart and don't point your finger to the watchmen.
The Bride can start doubting in her Beloved as she listens to the watchmen and becomes lukewarm like them. Fear and unbelieve can enter into her heart and she looses confidence as confusions comes in.
She can also react in anger and bitterness towards the watchmen and fighting against them in her own strenght instead of putting her trust in God and obey His commandment to LOVE. She sees the watchmen as her enemies, which they are NOT. The watchman are not your enemies!
Another way the Bride can response and in which God challenges us to response is in LOVE as she stays confident in LOVE before God. As she chooses to believe His words of truth and not to the lies of the watchmen that try to put fear in her. It is all about love; the Kingdom, is all about love. God challenges us to love, to not become angry towards the watchmen, let no bitterness come into your heart.
This whole thing can cause you to draw closer to God's heart. You become stronger in Him as you set your eyes on things above. Don't become sluggish. Pray for those who persecute you.
Mature in love and obedience. Run to God and let Him touch you, let Him bring healing and restoration to your heart. Let your heart be softened by Him, do not harden your hearts.
